    Question
According to the class, why don't we roast our meat presently at our seders?

      Re: Question
The reason is that it is "nireh kemakriv kadashim bachutz," meaning, it can seem as though we are offering sacrifices outside of the Holy Temple. Hence we do not east roasted food at our seder.

Ata Yadaeti!, now I know why I have been captured by Chabad Chassidus, and can not let go of it. The teaching of Chabad like this class, grows healty Jewish self-esteem.

    On Angels and Men
    Dear Rabi Jacobson,

unfortunately, I think that the boy is right and the answer of the Rav is not enough. Why? Because life, things and people are everyday moro and more complicated. Just guess about those poor fellows jews who does not manage to get married. How many handicaps do they put for someone to be their match. And all the people who does not get a job: how many details do they ask for, and how many skills does the employers want.

And we see this at school, at home, everywhere.

Life is becoming sort of... unbearable. Unfortunately.

    Joke
בעבר נהגתם כמו שעשה רבא לתלמידיו שאמר להם מילתא דבדיחותא תחילה ובדחי רבנן.

    האם הפסקתם עם זה בכוונה?

    זה חסר...

    ישר כח גדול

    I came back
    Questions & Exercises
    1. What are five reasons for the commandment to prepare the Passover offering roasted on fire?
Just key words: 1) nobility v. poverty, 2) quick start v. delay, 3) abomination v. adoration (without fear and concealment), 4) evil through fire v. G-dliness through the same fire, 5) oneness v. fragmentations.
    2. Why was the Passover offering roasted and the Nazirite offering cooked?
Fascinating insight: when we had to be born as a nation (see as a first stage of child’s development) we had to excrete pure essence of our entity, so no foreign taste could interfere or penetrate with dilution and delusion. As for Nazirite, he already has his strong core in place. Now add some water for better flavor spread!
    3. What is the connection between Abraham being rescued from the fire and eating the Passover offering roasted in fire?
Is it about nature of fire v.nature of water? 4. Based on the explanation of the Maharal, are you more of a fire-roast or a boiled food?
If statement “we are what we eat” is true then I wish you have as many blessings as many barbeques (shashlik) I had in my life. Add to that genetic background: Mountain Jews possessing of thousands lambs at local meadows… (You might think you can have real lambs’ barbeques in the middle of America? but you cannot! Go back to Mitzraim for that taste or may be forward to Jerusalem).
    5. Are you the relaxed type, or the intense type?
Clear history with depressants and stimulants.
    Do you like it?
    Sure.
    Do you want to change?
    You’re kidding!
    Why?
Don’t know; may be too lazy for supporting our Pharmacological achievements.
    6. What does it mean to be free?
When Karl Marx stated that ‘freedom is the consciousness of necessity’ his Jewish nature was revealed. He just omitted a small detail: consciousness of soul’s necessity…
Are you a free human being?
Haven’t I already mentioned about clear history? No meshugasy ( did I spell it correctly) about freedom.
    What is holding you back?
Hey, Maslow’s pyramid of essential human needs cannot always stay up side down…
    7. “A man does not die with half of his cravings fulfilled,” the Midrash remarks. Is that an insult? A mockery of the human?
As my coach used to say: ‘make piece with the idea of never having piece’. Can we stop making fun of ourselves?
    8. Should we educate our children to be more fire-like or water-like? More complacent or more unsatisfied?
I think we can only help them to find their own identity ( treate them with real food without soy or fast foot), but choices are theirs.
    P.S.
Thanks to Rabbi Jacobson for keeping my brain cells in shape for other, more serious and not very serious tests.

    Strength in identity
I'm in middle of the shiur but I want to put this down before I forget. As I listened to the stress on freedom and fleeing the slave mentality, I thought, "I wish Netanyahu would hear this before meeting with Obama..."
