    Jews need to unite
I am printing this great article, studying it thoroughly and keeping copies on me to distribute to my liberal friends who constantly blame Israel as occupiers. The biggest problem we have is a lack of unity among ourselves, Muslims and Christians are reminders for us to unite.

    You wrote:

If G-d gave the Land of Israel to us, how can any Jew even say that they will negotiate it - even under certain conditions?

I don't understand where you're coming from, unless you think Eretz Yisrael isn't holy right now for some reason.

    same mistake

    Dear Rabbi Jacobson,

Your essay on Obama and the 1967 Borders is well-written and informative yet makes the same mistake in its concluding statement that so many others always make: You wrote, "Israel must state clearly that until the culture and education of the entire Palestinian population does not change, there will be no more negotiations on even a single inch of the land of Israel---obviously you meant to write changes rather than does not change.

Where does it say in Torah and where did the Rebbe ever say or write that if they change, then we'll negotiate?! The Rebbe stated clearly that no individual or group has the power or right to cede any part of Eretz Yisroel to Goyim.

What will happen should the Arabs ever agree to Israel's request to recognize its right to exist? What if they smarten up and lay down their guns for a while--won't the rest of the Umos HaOlam then demand that Israel cede its territory in light of the other side's concessions. Yes, I know the Rebbe also said the Arabs will never do it, still our responsibility is to clearly and authentically articulate the Rebbe's vision for Shleimos HaAretz. This is equally, if not more so, important for our fellow Jews to hear the emes and not some touch/feeling ideas.

And, by the way, there is no Palestinian population--they are Arabs, plain and simple.

    Best Wishes,

    Mrs. Tamar Adelstein

    Truth
    Dear Rabbi Jacobson,

the people in this country need a common agreed upon truth to rally around. the truth that almost every american relate to is that when G-D took the Jewish People out of eygiptian bindage he took them to mount sinai and then to the land of ERETZ YISROEL. this is a truth that will be accepted. there is no need for any jew to offer a solution to why they are being attacked.

    You need to apologize
President Obama presented yesterday his blueprint for Mideast peace: Israel must withdraw to its pre-1967 borders. A Palestinian State needs to be created, viable and sovereign. Israel must be recognized and its security guaranteed.

How can you possibly say that?! Did you actually read what he said?

Here's what Obama said last Thursday: "the borders of Israel and Palestine should be based on the 1967 lines with mutually agreed swaps"

Here is what Netanyahu himself agreed to last November and is current official Israeli policy (emphasis mine):

"The Prime Minister and the Secretary (of State) agreed on the importance of continuing direct negotiations to achieve our goals. The Secretary reiterated that "the United States believes that through good-faith negotiations, the parties can mutually agree on an outcome which ends the conflict and reconciles the Palestinian goal of an independent and viable state, based on the 1967 lines, with agreed swaps, and the Israeli goal of a Jewish state with secure and recognized borders that reflect subsequent developments and meet Israeli security requirements."

(The source of the above statement is directly from the Israeli Govt website: http:// www.mfa.gov.il/MFA/Governme... /2010/Joint_statement_PM_Netanyahu_US_Sec_Clinton_11-Nov-2010.htm)

Note that Obama, on Thursday, was *quoting* Netanyahu's agreed to statement (except that Obama added the word "mutually" before the words "agreed swaps")

    You wrote:

I wish it was otherwise, but the words of the President demonstrate profound ignorance of the reality. Let us clarify some of the vital issues at hand, not based on illusions, but on facts.

I'm reminded of the Baal Shem Tov's statement about finding fault in others. Those who claim that Obama "must withdraw to 1967 borders" are the ones ignorant of reality here, and are based on illusions and not on facts. A simple google check would have found Obama's actual words.

Look -- I get that you seem to hate Obama. But at least present your case in a fair and honest way. I'm very disappointed. You owe your readers a retraction, or at least a clarification -- which would lessen my disappointment (and, perhaps others, who are aware of what Obama actually said).

Who said Rabbi jacobson is SUPPORTING Netanyahu's official policy either?

You are correct to point out though that this position is not even Israeli policy. It is based on a more objective perspective of the facts.

      Do you see your mistake?

      Re: You need to apologize
      To Sholom:

I will use several sources to show you why you don't understand what you yourself wrote above. The first source is your link from the Israel Gov't website http://www.mfa.gov.il/MFA/G... Here is the text: "The Prime Minister and the Secretary agreed on the importance of continuing direct negotiations to achieve our goals. The Secretary reiterated that "the United States believes that through good-faith negotiations, the parties can mutually agree on an outcome which ends the conflict and reconciles the Palestinian goal of an independent and viable state, based on the 1967 lines, with agreed swaps, and the Israeli goal of a Jewish state with secure and recognized borders that reflect subsequent developments and meet Israeli security requirements." Those requirements will be fully taken into account in any future peace agreement." CLINTON TOLD about that US BELIEVES in good-faith negotiations and the parties CAN mutually agree on an outcome which ends the conflict and reconciles THE PALESTINIAN GOAL BASED ON THE 1967 LINES with agreed swaps. This statement told about the Palestinian goal. OK? Not US goal or requirement. The ISRAEL GOAL is SECURE AND RECOGNIZED BORDERS THAT REFLECT SUBSEQUENT DEVELOPMENTS AND SECURITY REQUIREMENTS. Netanyahu never told that it will be used 1967 lines. And Clinton told only that this is "wish" of the Palestinians. In this speech on May 2011 Obama said the FIRST TIME that 1967 lines are his requirements too. Here is his speech on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Here is the full text of his speech on May 19, 2011: http://yidwithlid.blogspot.... This article provides analysis and comments. It explains, for example, that "there is no such thing as 1967 borders. That “green line” running through the West Bank is the 1949 Armistice Line. The armistice line was created solely because that’s Israeli and Arab forces stopped fighting at the end of the War of Independence. That 1949 line, that people call 1967 border, is really only a military line. It was never intended for the Armistice lines to mark final borders... Why Obama's declaration was particularly dangerous for Israel is that HE made a unilateral concession in the name of Israel. There was no negotiation; Obama took it upon himself to take away a bargaining chip from the Jewish State. This will actually make negotiations more difficult because Israel will have to fight harder on other issues to get what it needs.". Here is a report from BBC about Obama speech "Barack Obama presses for Middle East reform" http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/w... Here is other report on YouTube from CCTV news "OBAMA PRESSES FOR MIDDLE EAST REFORM CCTV News" https://www.youtube.com/wat... reporting that "US President Barack Obama has backed a key Palestinian demand for the borders of its future state to be re-drawn back to the 1967 limits. In doing so, Obama has given Israel a reminder about accepting that it can never have a peaceful nation based on "permanent occupation."" Do you think all these reporters are wrong to recognize the FACT THAT ON MAY 19, 2011, OBAMA in the first time in US history backed a key Palestinian demand! One more, please, read this article and you, maybe, will understand "POLITICAL GAMES": http://www.haaretz.com/news...

    negotiations?
I wonder about the answer to the "So, what is the solution to the conflict?" question. When the author writes that "Until the culture and education of the entire Palestinian population does not change, ther will be no more negotiations on even a single inch of the land of Israel." This seems to imply that negotiations are being held out as a possibility. What does the author propose to be negotiated? If this is what the author suggests Israel needs to state clearly, then the author also needs to state clearly how many inches he is willing to give away. If "not an inch" is the position, then why even bring this up as a option? Perhaps it was an oversight, I certainly would appreciate a clarification.

    Israel truths
The best I have ever read. Yes, Israel did not seek to attack in 1967 and was looking for someone to take the lands off their hands in exchange for peace. As you so rightly point out, it was this posture that encouraged the Arabs in their hatred and violence.

    Land for Peace
Dear Rabbi Jacobson - This article is brilliant, clearly stating the facts and history. I wish it could be printed on the front page of the NY Times which while I don't read or subscribe to b/c of its anti-semitic leanings, is widely read by so many, considered l'havdil like a bible. One small correction if I might - in the end of the article where you describe what Israel should do, the sentence beginning "Until the culture and education ... says 'does not change' I believe should be "changes." Thank you for presenting the truth.

    Sincerely,

    Rifka Saltz

Excellent. I wish I could be so clear when explaining to others why we, the Jewish people, have our absolute right to live peacefully in Israel, our homeland. We have to know the facts to be able to talk clearly. Learning about our history is such an eye-opener because the more I learn the more details come

together and the better answers I get to my own questions. Thank you for your clarifications they are very enlightening.

"I Stand With Israel - Where do You stand?"
Essay from other email list to those Jews who Voted for Obama:

Are you packing your bags, turning the keys of your home in the "West Bank" over to one of the "friendly, peace loving Palestinians" who will surely use your mirpeset as a launching pad to destroy your new home inside the "Green Line"?

You - of all people - need to stand up, scream the loudest that you feel BETRAYED!!!! You must call Obama what he is: A FAKE!!! You can't possibly call him a traitor because he was never, ever on your side to begin with.

But he did lie to you, and you, in your goodness - (a trait of truly good people is that they tend to be a little naive and can believe anything) - allowed him to lead you to drink his special potion of Kool-Aid to get your vote - all 78% of you American Jews who voted this war monger, this enemy of Israel, into office.

Face it: Obama just declared war on you and your children. He has just handed one of the most powerful weapons to those who have come to kill you and your children: The weapon of hasbara, of a hechsher that it's ok to uproot Jews from their homes and "draw back to the '67 borders" - aka the Suicide Line.

And now, coming this September at the UN, when Israel refuses to go as sheep to the slaughter, the nations of the world will now have the excuse, the endorsement, the hechsher they've been waiting for: Israel's best "friend" (and that notion has always been a bunch of garbage) now tells them to pack up and leave, you've overstayed your welcome, Jews, go to a place where it will be easier to implement the true Final Solution. Beautiful - no need for "labor camps", 3 day train rides or even twisted metal signs of "Arbeicht Macht Frei". The enemies can now kill you right in your own homes, schools, and businesses. How efficient, how convenient, how Hitleresque as the other side of the "Green Line" becomes one big concentration camp that combines Auschwitz, Treblinka, Dachau, et al into one neat little package.

This, my dear Jewish brethren, is what your vote got you.

And now, you had better fight, you had better stand up NOW and declare, scream, take to the streets, in no uncertain terms, that you're staying put in your homeland - every single inch of it.

And for all you American Jews that are still plopped in your homes that are losing equity and value by the minute: Get your tuches over here. Now. We need you now more than ever. Correction: You need US now more than ever. (And by the way, the US in that sentence does not stand for the United States of America.) The leader of that country is now on a campaign to take away your homeland and has declared war on you. Get out NOW.

A time to speak the truth...
We need to stop talking about that which happened 2000 years ago. From 1922 through 1947 there are a vast number of documents and UN Resolutions including decisions by the International Court that gave Israel the land from the Med sea to the Jordan River which convey legal rights to the land that was given in the 1947 resolution and the land in the British Mandate letter conveying the British governments intentions for this land and the Jewish people. It is very important that we the Jewish people learn what is in these documents and speak of these legal documents every time this subject is discussed. We have to change the distractions of the Left to the intended will of Hashem. But to do this we have to use the correct tactics and politics. The International Court stated on (paraphrased) any land occupied captured by a country defending itself during a war from an aggressor is legally there land. This is a clear statement that Israel has met these conditions and is not an illegal occupier but the absolute owner of of the territories in contention. This must said over and over loud and clear as one of the answers whenever this is the conversation. It is our own fault that we have become so ignorant of the true facts and allowed revisionist Palestinian history to overshadow the truth.

We need daily positive publicity to offset the lies that the Arab nations are distributing throughout the world. WAKE UP AMERICA ! WAKE UP OUR WORLD! There is a time for peace and a time for war. WE ARE AT WAR ! THE ARAB NATIONS WANT TO DESTROY US...WE SEE IT IN THE MEDIA EVERY DAY ! WE ARE AT WAR FOR ALL FREEDOM LOVING PEOPLE...IT IS NOW OR NEVER! WE CANNOT ALLOW ANOTHER HOLOCAUST IF WE DON'T ACT NOW. OBAMA IS NOT A FRIEND TO THE JEWISH PEOPLE...HE IS NOT TO BE TRUSTED.

    a better solution
That is a great essay, only prolem, and it is major, you write about logic and truth, which you and many others have been doing since 1948, this has never been about either. We finally have a president that can understand a viable solution, Israel goes back it its pre-1967 boarders just as soon as obama brings the U.S. back to its pre-1860 boarders and constitution and we sell him as a slave. If he is picking dates, what is wrong with 1850?

    No discussion
You writing an essay imply that there is a genuine discussion. However, it looks like purely election propaganda, attempt to represent chaos as "change". Even muslims, such as Fareed Zakharia, wrote that Obama represented complex, contradictory and unruly movements in Arab countries as event positive for the US and provided a positive picture without any reason.

Could you seriously discuss details in a talk like this?

    Obama and Israel
Wow I gave much to say but am using an IPhone and it's a bit hard. Last night, I am in New York, I read the speech by Obama and was horrified. My first thought was "what's his agenda? Does he not know? Why is he foing the American public and what is the end he is seeking?" what bargains gave been struck in the Arab world by his administration? Why is he supporting the Muslim brotherhood without telling the American public who the rebels in the Egyptian uprising are. Yes shame on American public for not asking the questions but we are simply gullible and maybe lazy. Unfortunately we are easily duped. Gosh, will I have to vote republican in the next election just to protest this mans re election? I am afraid I will. My Jewishness will beat out my desire to see a better world in America. Thanks Hinda for trying to educate us . You do in so many ways.

    Your final Solution
"Israel must assume full security and military control over all of the territories under the united banner of a single country, Eretz Israel."

albeit it is a single sentence, the only way for israel to find a measure of stoicism and poise to firmly establish itself is NOT BY going to its zionist happenings but by connecting to jewish roots and history on a national cultural and societal and educational level

this is not farfetched (i have been on it for over six years already) there are movements that are moving forward to provide a leadership for the people of the state of israel that is jewish in character and in nature. that is eretz yisroeldik

this would foster a understanding and a portfolio of foresight and scope as well as a resevior of inner knowledge and identity with which to educate enlighten and settle the issue and the land of eretz yisroel

ideas that are being formented and being developed are 2 for example

the idea of a longer weekend for israel a shabbat and a sunday

    http://www.facebook.com/not...

another idea, is the formenting of mature future jewish leaders who will step in and provide jewish leadership on all levels for the land of the jewish people.

for example goto www.jewishisrael.org to see more.

      Re: Your final Solution
To Yisroel: Your response to Rabbi article is "pure secular" response. What representatives of "www.jewishisrael.org" want - not religious state. Do you think to have day off on Sunday is more important than on Friday? Is it so important that we will argue about it? If you don't understand the purpose why Friday is day off I will explain to you: to prepare better for Shabbat, because the main reason why Jewish people were chosen by Hashem is to serve Him. Shabbat is very Holy day for us, Jews, and this is Jewish culture, Judaism is Jewish culture, and religion, following to Hashem mitzvot are Jewish culture and tradition of our forefathers.

Ben VS Eved - a Yid is a child of HaShem. I am a convert planning to convert in Israel to take the Yoke, not yet converted. I do not have Neshama mamash part of G-d. I do not have enlightment and Holy eternal connection with HaShem like a Yid, G-d's child. I discipline myself to HaShem's will. But I often encounter perplex situations that Jews are threwing away their precious Heritage with HaShem.
