10th of Av Can someone please clarify, I am still left with a question. If Hashem's "arrows" are different because He can always retrieve them, then why do we fast on the 9th of Av which is when it was set off but Hashem could have still ended it, so shouldn't we fast on the 10th?? Thank you

R. Yochanan I think "hi" was referring to R. Yochanan ben Zakai, who was the leader of the Jews during the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 C.E. The R. Yochanan mentioned in this Gemara was the brother-in-law and colleague of R. Shimon ben Lakish, also known as Reish Lakish. The two lived much later.

question Did not Reb Yoichonon live for 120 years, through the destruction of the second Bais Hamikdosh? So therefore, why did he say if i would have lived then i would have instituded to fast on the 10th of Av? deep
also i didnot understand the lagic the gemarah gives for Reb Yochanan, why if a fire has no subatsnace does it become your arrow, even though it travels on its own? just because we can't call it "your property," does it automotically become "you"?!

Gift of HaShem unleashed Baruch HaShem
My life, until I met Chabad Lubavitch, was a misplaced passion. Chabad has nurtured, educated, guided, reoriented, sustained my passion, so that I can sanctiry it. Now my dream is the day my husband stands in front of Kadosh Baru Hu, with total submission, at Beis HaMikdash wearing a Tallit Gadol I gave him at the wedding.

Unleashing the energy of Moshiach Is it possible to say or infer that when Hashem made the covenant with our Patriachs, that was when the energy of our redemption as a nation started?
