  If Raba was able to daven and bring Reb Zeira back to life after he learnt secrets of the torah, why didn't Aaron, or someone else daven and bring Nodov and Aviyhu back to life after they passed away?

  i was wondering why raba picked r'zeira from all the other tanuim but perhaps one can say that a 'small' person is a humble person (like shmuel... מעיל קטן עשתה לו אמו") ..... and like you said, one has to put aside their ego in order to get to that higher place.

  This is one of my favorite shiurim to listen to. Absolutly marvelous piece of Torah!  Ben Yehodaya also explains the Gemorah in the same direction.

  Hello Rabbi Jacobson,

  Firstly, thank you for your wonderful shuirim which I enjoy immensely via TorahAnytime.

  I'm sure you are a very busy person and I'll get straight to the question I had on a shuir I heard last year.

  You were discussing the episode with Rabbah and R' Zeira and all of the questions on the story.  You brought up the Rambam that in hilchos megila discusses how giving matanos l'evyonim takes precedence over the other mitzvos of Purim since by putting other people's needs above your own, it is akin to acting like the Shechina.  You asked why is such an amazing aspect of tzedakah mentioned parantheticlaly here in hichos megila and not by hilchos tzedkah?

  I followed the rest of the shuir, which dealt with the tapping into our hidden, inner spiritual souls, beyond the restraints of the material and physicial world, and how that resolved the understanding of the episode with Rabbah and R' Zeira (and Nadav and Avihu).

  But I either did not understand or simply missed how the question on the Rambam was answered?

  (P.S. I had a small addition to the overall "mehalach" of this shuir.  We find the loshon of "tardeima" also used when Adam was put to sleep to create Chava.  Perhaps the relationship between husband and wife, one which is intended to be selfless and giving to one's spouse, also has this lofty trait that elevates one to a more spiritual level beyond our typical physical selves)

    Thanks very much for your questions. I do not recall if I answered or not. But the point is this.

    The Rambam here is giving a new "hagdarah" for the tzedakah of purim; all year it is about giving charity; purim it is about a new matan torah -- become one with the Shechina. (Source: Likkutei Sichos vol. 16 Purim).

    That is why he puts it in here.

    Your other observation about Tardamah is excellent.

  עי' בגמ' כתובות דף י"ז ע"א רב שמואל בר יצחק היה מרקד אתלת ואמר רב זירא קא מכסיף לן סבא כו' אהני לי שטותיה לסבא כו' וכמובן זהו ענין שטות דקדושה שהוא ענין מסירת נפש לעלות למעלה בלי טעם ודעת וזה לא היה משיג רב זירא ולכן אמר קא מכסיף לן סבא.
