new perspective, yet so real and simple
Have been learning and debating with my chavruso for a while….
Hashem created the world to give of his good and to get this good AND TO ALLOW Hashem to give this good, we need to perform certain mitzvas, keep away from averios and learn Torah (in a nutshell).
Then we thought, isn’t it interesting and a little strange that to get close to this infinite Hashem, we must use brute physicality, a rams horn, wheat and flour for matzo, bits of wood for a sukka etc. We have answered this using the basis of the Ramchal in Derech Hashem amongst other sources.

The whole perspective leading up to the question is wrong. Our perspective is –
Serving Hashem with brute physicality? Somewhat interesting, weird and a little strange… Ok, so are you happy serving Hashem by sitting on a mountaintop in Tibet and meditating all day? Yes, that sounds much more appropriate, a true connection to spirituality.
Says the Baal Shem Tov, you have it all wrong. Hashem is not physical and he isn’t spiritual. There is no more reason to serve Hashem one more than the other. Hashem isn’t either – he created both!!!
Completely changed my perspective and is mamash poshut pshat. If I can please just ask for the mekor.. I would love to see this inside.

Take out the garbage
My father-in-law was zocheh to have his shvigger live in his house for the last few years of her life. During that time, he served as president of a big shul in Flatbush. He said that his mother-in-law gave him grois kovod (much honor) for this. When he would come home, she would be sitting on her easy chair in the living room, and she would say, "Mr. President - take out the gahbage!"
He said that this ensured that the position would never go to his head.
BTW - when Harry Truman was asked what he missed most about the presidency, he responded, "They no longer play Hail to the Chief when I walk into a room! Now that's kovod! Or is it?
