  I’m still digesting the shiur, BH. So good to hear the “Degel Machene Efraim”. Just letting you know, how you inspired me to open the Sefer, he’s so good; I have tears. What a zechut for you , us,His Neshama.
  
  Chazal also teach us, as long as you can stand on one leg/foot you’re also young or healthy, in comment to what you said(please tell me again I forgot whom you quoted & what he said about staying youthful).

  I listened to your shiur on Ephrayim and Menashe and read over the Degel M. E. Pirush. He infers the lesson to the tzaddik and all Jews not specifically to parents. although its an interesting take on parenting, why would the same Yaakov, a few pesukum later, NOT bless Reuven and bring up the "bad deed" he had done years ago, for which he had already LOST three privileges forever, and now up on his deathbed, rather than complimenting and praising Reuven even for other traits he again brings it up and that is after years of teshuva. And he leaves it up to Moshe to decide what will be the fate of Reuven in the end. Would seem that this DIRECTLY contradicts the ho'raah of the parenting lesson stated here. Wonder if there is any pirush that goes on to explain this interchange as it relates to parenting today. Thanks

    Yaffie. There are many middos we are taught to  emulate yet we see the opposite time and  again in  the  Torah. 

      We are told to be honest. Yet look at  the trickery against Yitzchak by his own wife and  son. Many other examples. 

      We are told to be positive. Yet when Pharoh merely asks Yakov his age, Yakov includes how difficult his life was.

      We are told not to  criticize. Yet look at  the first words of  Yisro coming to  his son in law. 

      The list goes  on  and on. 

       Maybe Rabbi YY can explain.

  Good morning!

  I heard you shiur on Ephraim and Menashe.

  I come from a critical family and have been working on trying to be more positive and see the good on people and situations.

  I think I am less negative but don't seem to be able to see the positive without having in the back of my mind the "but" ...

  Any ideas for me on how to change that?

  Thank you once again for a heartwarming magnificent shiur this week.  Besides for the deep and very powerful  message of seeing all the white rather than the black dot, I found the “vayima’ain x 3” piece to be profound.
  
  I also want to add a special thank you for the weekly essays.  Each one is a gem.  I’m waiting to see them compiled into what will surely be a bestseller in our sforim shops around the world...

  Yakov blessed Yosef's sons

  We are not told that Yakov gave any such brochas or treatment to any other grandsons from his many other sons.  The mere fact that dafka Yosef's sons are singled out shows Yakov  continued the preferential treatment accorded  Yosef 39 years earlier that, though seemed wrong, set in motion the entire chain of  events that led to an ultimate golus and  geula,   all part of  His plan.

  Yakov gave the greater brocha to the younger brother

  Why is this a surprise? Yakov himself was the younger brother and both took the birthright and  also the greater brocha from Yitzvhsk their father!  "The younger shall be greater" and that was himself which he perpetuatrd not only preferring Yosef one of the youngest at the time but continued this to his grandsons.
