    Shabbos Purim

    Gut Yuhr,

I don't understand how Purim could've fallen on Shabbos in the days of Reb Yehoshua ben Levi if he was from the amoroim and in that time roshe chodesh was done like we do it?

Am I missing something? Please explain. Thanks

During Reb Yehoshua ben Levi it was still done with witnesses each month.

Rabbi Jacobson, thanks for the prompt answer but there seems to be a discrepancy between the gemarah on omud aleph and the gemarah here.

The gemarah on omud aleph says that in the days of Rabbi Akiva it was bizman hazeh, meaning that even the tannah reb akivah was considered to be after the era of kidush hachodesh al pi reiyah.

Yet, here it seems like in the days of reb Yehoshua ren levi which was much later than reb akivah, purim could fall out on Shabbos.

        Please explain. Thanks.
