The Cohen Godol had to be married
But, wait a minute! Wasn't this before the takana of Rabbenu Gershom who forbid (askenazim) from having more than 1 wife? Wasn't 2 (or more) wives permitted in the times of the Mishna and the Botei Migdash?
If a "wife is his home" how does 2 or more wives and therefore 2 or more homes (with all attendant competition and jealousy) square with the themes presented here?

The beginning of a meshechta is connected to the end
In the beginning there was only Hashem and His Light. Fast forward thru creation, the mabul, the giving of the Torah, the 2 botei Migdash, golus and to the end. In the end what will be? Again only Hashem and His light.

Nadav and Avihu did not have children.
But...wasn't that before the command that the Cohen Godol be married was given? Before the command not to do any avodah intoxicated was given?
Once many centuries ago a nonjewish priest found one of the oldest manuscripts of their faith. He almost had a heart attack. He reported to his superiors that the manuscript says "celebrate"!
