  The Alter Rebbe concludes se'if 18 by saying that if it is easy to remove bug, don't remove it unless it's irritating you; if it's diffiiult to remove by mere "shoo'ing" it's ok ("no harm done")  to remove it before it starts to irritate you.

  Ty for the classes. But you were very unclear when can you and when can you not kill an animal on Shabbos?
  
  
  
  If a mosquito is on my hand, can i brush it off with my hand, even though an animal is muktzeh? I know the Alter Rebbe (316:18) sites two opinions. What is the verdict? How do we behave practically?
  
  
  
  Also, the Alter Rebbe says there, that according to one opinion you can remove the mosquito only once it starts biting. But what's the use now to remove it, you are bitten! and how does one identify the moment it starts bitting you?

  Children often in the country will pick up a frag and put it in a cup of water or the like?

  Cold?
  So if a cat or a bird comes into the house, and it is cold outside, may I close the window?
  
  
  
  And does this prohibiton apply to a bug, a fly, a bee, a butterfly, etc? if they fly into the house, may I close the window? are they considered "trapped" when they are in a home?

    Fly, bee, butterfly are no more restrained when window is closed than when open. So it would be ok to close window. 
    
    On the other hand if (as often happens) the fly etc. is on the inside of the window itself and can easily fly out if window is open, one should either get it to fly out (but not by catching it and throwing it out!!), or shoo it away from the window.
    
    Cats and birds are different, as they will search for an exit. Get it out (you probably want it out anyhow - at least the balabosta does!)

  לתוכן השיעור, יעויין בן יהוידע להבן איש חי ברכות י, ב: שלא ראתה זבוב עובר על שולחנו קשא בשלמא למ"ד שלא ראתה קרי על סדינו לכך קראה קדוש כי כל מקום שיש גדר ערוה יש קדושה, אבל למ״ד שלא ראתה זבוב מה שייכות יש בזה לקדושה?
  
  
  ונ״ל בס״ד ע״פ מ״ש הגאון חיד״א ז״ל בשם ספר הקרניים שיש קליפה הנקראת זבוב ליפרע מן הפוגם ביסוד וע״י לימוד התורה הקדושה מכניע קליפה זו, וכנז' בנחל שורק בפסוק והמלך דוד זקן בא בימים ע״ש. ובזה פרשתי בס״ד מאמר רז״ל רבי יוחנן מכריז הזהרו מזבובית של בעלי ראתן ר״ל כחות קליפת זבוב השולטות על אותם המסתכלים בעריות וחוטאים ביסוד. והנה כאן השונמית נתנה דעתה והרגישה שאין זבוב עובר על שולחנו אמרה ודאי הוא קדוש מצד ערוה והתרחקה ממנו קליפת זבוב ומכניע אותה לכך עושין לו נס מן השמים לאות ומופת על קדושתו שאין הזבוב התחתון שהקליפה נקראת על שמו עובר על שולחנו וזה האות שהוא קדוש.
  
  
  ובדרשותי על ההפטרות בס״ד פרשתי טעם לזה הנס שנעשה לאלישע דלא היה זבוב עובר על שולחנו והוא ע״פ מ״ש בפרקי שירה זבוב בשעה שאין ישראל עוסקין בתורה אומר קול אומר קרא ואמר מה אקרא כל הבכר חציר ע״ש. נמצא הזבוב דרכו להתעורר בשירה בזמן שאין ישראל עוסקין בתורה דוקא. ואמרתי דרך הלצה לכך תראה הזבובין מצויין הרבה על השולחן מפני שדברי תורה על השולחן הוא חיוב גדול וצורך מאד ולכן מלאך הממונה על הזבובין שולח אותם למקום השולחן לראות אם עוסקים בתורה או לאו כדי שיפתח פיו בקריאה או לאו.
  
  
  ובזה פרשתי מאמר ר״י הזהרו מזבובין של בעלי ראתן ר״ל אותם המרגלים הנשלחים לראות בבני אדם הזהרו מהם שתעסקו בתורה ולא תניחוס לקטרג. ובזה מובן ממילא טעם שלא היה זבוב עובר על שולחנו כי לא היה זז רגע אחד מעסק התורה ולא היו הזבובין שלוחים לראות בשולחנו. נס מן השמים עשו לו נס להראות על צדקתו בעסק התורה.
