Modern warfare, question
Is the metal arrow considered like a sword? What about a gun? in connection with becoming an Avi Avois Hatumah.

Yes. However, the gun probably did not touch the corpse, only the bullet. Same with the bow used to unleash the arrow.
So they will not be impure, because they did not come in contact with the corpse. That is why if someone shoots an arrow and kills someone (G-d forbid), the killer will not become tame, because there was no direct contact, unless he touches the arrow after it touched the corpse.
An interesting question is: If I touch the sword, say, on the 4th day of the cleansing process, I become an Av Hatumah, now I send the Tumah back to the sword, does the sword need to go through the entire cleansing process again? The Rashash says no, but most say yes. (Which is why you should make sure the sword is hidden away while it is tame).

Two Chidushim of Rabbi Akiva
Wondering if the the word "והוסיף" in the mishna eludes to the fact that there are two Chidushim. Without the word "והוסיף" we can already assume that Rabbi Akiva is telling us one chidush, otherwise his statement would be just reiterating Rabbi Chanina but just in different words.
