From the Belly of the Abyss, I Cried Out

Never Isolated, Never Detached: In Heaven or In the Grave, There You Are

1 hr 23 min

Class Summary:

This is the fifth of a series of a text-based class on the Chassidic discourse, Basi Legani 5724 (1964), which was said by the Lubavitcher Rebbe 60 years ago at the Farbrengen of Motzei Shabbos Beshalach, 11 Shevat, 5724, January 25, 1964. Rabbi YY Jacobson gave this class on Monday, 5 Shvat, 5784, January 15, 2024, in Bais Medrash Ohr Chaim, Monsey, NY.

This class explores how a human being given the gift of free choice can degrade himself or herself even lower than “klipa,” which is part of the cosmic program and never deviates from the Divine plan and code, where a human being can deviate from the code, since he reflects his Creator who is free and is the author of the code of life. We discussed at length how Pharaoh lost his free choice, and how it is only awareness of who you really are that gives you that freedom.

The class explains how even in the abyss one can find and discover the presence of the infinite love of G-d, similar to Yonah who when swallowed by the whale declares: “From the belly of hell, I have cried out to you.” We explore the meaning of hair in Kabbalah and why married women cover their hair.

This is a mashal and not a real instance acted out with real characters.  The mashal stands to teach us.

In real life the zona is not aware of her role.  Who will tell her about it?  Would she accept that role?

Could she be aware of that role and simply be playing a game? Too dangerous a scene for any woman with fear of sin or fear of Heaven.

So Oct. 7 was a great thing.  All those raped and tortured women, burned alive babies, tortured men were for a great aliya.

The Rebbe said to the boy "let it go",

    It's not you or yours".

What about epigenetics?" That is basic DNA over which we have no control

There is no punishment, only tikkun

What about capital punishment? Nit much chance to do better afterwards--at least in this lifetime

Considering that capital punishment is doled out by human beings, it follows that it is a valid exercise, which is put in the Torah as law and acts as a great learns Torah to prevent him from falling into such a state of affairs.

Furthermore, it is the consequence of his choices for which he needs rectification.  This is the first step.  Hashem is concerned for the welfare of that person's soul and for this reason we believe in the "Gilgulim" the reincarnation of souls.

They are given another chance to revisit their misdeeds in the next reincarnation, thus enabling them to rectify (letaken or make that Tikkun) a second time around.

Like it or not.... That is Judaism.

The trauma of one's youth replaced the

Yetzer Hora? Maybe one can say that the yetzer Hora has taken and used the trauma as his tool? Not replacement but utilization

The instant between stimulus and reaction

Is the instant of free choice?

Does it have to be a short instant? No. O e who waits to react, who thinks carefully over what the reaction should be, enlarges that space between stimulus and reaction and so makes it a thought out reaction not a snap reaction.

    So there's truth

in what the snake told Chava and Adam, that if they ate from the tree they would be like GD -  "For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."

When the prince resists the Zona, she can

Reveal the truth, namely that she is serving the king.

BUT, if the prince fails the test, she must continue the charade and she becomes a real Zona.
