Hi Rabbi Jacobson I LOVE your Torah Or shiur.
2 things. First I also wondered what is pashat behind the alter Rebbes statement that the yiddin didn't have a machshaves chutz...I think that the answer is mentioned immediately after - vzeh hinyan certainly by them it was above TAAM VDAAS....higher than thought itself - meaning that the thought didn't even enter there minds! Hence no machaves chutz...
2. Since Rabbi Akiva said that he waited his whole life to fulfill the mitzvah of ahavat haShem bchol nafshcha, kidush haShem, he certainty could not have been doing it without ulterior motives?
