Halacha 4: a talmud chocham who refuses..
Rabbi Grossman of Migdal Ohr fame, was offered the position of Chief Ashkenazi Rabbi. His father advised against taking it. And so he indeed refused.

and there are so many types and shitas of teachers. Litvish. Chasidush. Modern. Traditional. Sefardi. Ashkenazi. Chesedik. Gevuradik. Involved in the world or not. Shuns technology or not. . etc. Etc.
It would therefore follow that one must choose his teacher very carefully, even exploring various options before choosing.
Can one jump ship midstream?
